Mind meld massage vulcan2/11/2024 ![]() Our most obvious indication that somebody on set was a friend to slashers is in Spock!Prime's both lying to Kirk and urging Spock to stay on the Enterprise. It's awesome.īut all this was just small game. Kirk and Spock's fight on the bridge seems to be deliberately mirroring the fight scene in "Amok Time," arguably the slashiest Trek episode of them all, particularly the shot of Spock choking Kirk against the console and the corresponding shot of Spock looming over Kirk (particularly with all the choking going on).Īnd spookyfbi has made a really great video comparison of the two fight scenes.Pike makes Kirk Spock's first officer, which is sort of ludicrous decision based on their previous interactions, but clearly Pike can see their innate compatibility. It doesn't take a telepath to see that Kirk and Spock have chemistry.Jim pretty clearly intrigues Spock in general, if his expressions are anything to go by (check after Kirk slaps his shoulder before going to the Narada, at the end of their fight, on the Vulcan ship after Spock discovers the ship's origin, and in reaction to Kirk's offer of mercy to Nero). Not his mother-she's been absent so long in this film that to expect Kirk to be looking for her is pretty unreasonable. ![]() When Jim is given captaincy of the Enterprise, at the ceremony, he looks up into the seats, smiling, and seems to be looking for someone then his face falls slightly, like he didn't find that person. On the Narada, Spock is willing to put his trust in Jim to protect him when Spock is helpless during a meld. The personal space bubble between the two of them quickly collapses. After escaping the black hole, Kirk and Spock both simultaneously seek each other's gaze first.Kirk offers mercy to Nero, the man who destroyed Vulcan, almost destroyed Earth, and caused the death of Kirk's own father, because he thinks Spock would appreciate it.Does Kirk care as long as he gets to go with Spock? Nope! Your only two command level officers? Is that wise? No. Kirk's insists he accompany Spock to the Narada.Kirk takes a pretty quick liking to Spock!Prime. When Spock!Prime is talking about how he and his Kirk are besties, Kirk says, "You hate me." Not "We hate each other," but " You hate me." Kirk would be quite justified in hating Spock at this point, but he clearly states (if even by omission) that he does not.Out of all the hubbub in sickbay after Vulcan went boom, Kirk's gaze snaps right to Spock, and concern is clear on his face.Kirk's suddenly protective of Spock when he decides to beam down to Vulcan.(Yay for more lists!) In no particular order-other than this is the order in which I thought of them and wrote them down: So, let's start with the smaller things and work our way up to the conclusive proof most convincing arguments. But really, let's talk about some scriptwriting/editing/directing/acting choices that really make it seem like someone was in on the whole "Slash? What slash? I don't see any slash? *commence suspicious whistling*" bandwagon. Okay, so I'm getting a little carried away. Go about your business," but this film is so rife with subtext that I can't help thinking that someone must have been aware of it. Now they can say to anyone who might be concerned, "Hey, we dealt with the whole slash issue. The filmmakers have injected this romance subplot between Spock and Uhura into XI. These Filmmakers Are Sneaky, Subversive Little Weasels: Everyone's a Spirk Shipper! Interpretation of ST:XI: Slash goggles, on!, Part Four
